Open-source stitching engine

Artwork in.
Machine-ready embroidery out.

Upload a logo or a portrait, choose a fabric and hoop, and get validated DST, PES, JEF, EXP, VP3 and XXX files with a stitch-accurate preview. No Wilcom licence, no per-call API fees — the digitising core runs on open-source geometry and pyembroidery.

The workflow

Built for the way shops actually take in artwork.

Every stage is visible, every failure is explained, and no credit is spent on a design the engine knows it cannot sew.

01

Upload & pre-flight

Pick logo or photo mode. Resolution, colour count, background separation and texture are checked before anything is queued.

02

Vectorise & plan

Flat colours become regions and tatami fills. Photos are posterised into a thread palette, then sewn background-first.

03

Preview the stitches

A stitch simulation is rendered from the actual path — thread by thread, not an AI illustration of embroidery.

04

Validate & download

Files are re-opened with a machine parser and checked for density, trims, size and minimum stitch length.

Honest by design

The engine rejects work it cannot sew well.

Automatic digitising is not magic. Photos become stylised thread portraits, not photographic copies, and 0.4 mm hairlines still need a human digitiser and a real stitch-out. This MVP says so up front instead of selling you a broken file.

Photo mode simplifies eyelashes, hair strands and very fine facial detail.
Text smaller than ~4 mm cap height on a 90 mm badge.
Fine hairlines, gradients and textured brush strokes in logo mode.
Flat logos, badges, line icons and clean vector-style art.
People, pets and couples with a clear subject and a plain background.
SVG, PNG, JPG and WebP with a removable or transparent background.

Questions

What shops ask before switching.

Is this really producing embroidery files?

Yes. The engine writes real Tajima DST, Brother PES, Janome JEF, Melco EXP, Pfaff VP3 and Singer XXX binaries using pyembroidery, then re-opens every file and validates the stitch count and bounds. HUS and EMB are not supported.

How is this different from Wilcom?

Wilcom is a professional digitising suite with decades of tuning. This is an honest open-source alternative for clean flat logos and stylised thread portraits. It does not have the full manual toolset or a human digitiser's judgement.

Do I need to install Inkscape or Ink/Stitch?

No. The digitising core is implemented in Python with OpenCV and pyembroidery. Ink/Stitch is a great next adapter if you want its satin tools, and the engine interface is designed to allow that.

What happens when a job fails?

The job stops before download, the reason is shown in plain language, and the credit is returned automatically. If the file passes format checks but has thin details, you still get a warning and a quality score.

Can I use the API?

Business workspaces can create API keys and submit designs from their own storefront or order system. The API mirrors the dashboard flow: submit, poll, download.

Is the output production-ready?

It is machine-ready and QA-checked, but only a real stitch-out proves a design on a specific fabric. Test on scrap, then adjust density, underlay or satin width in the design settings.
